Center for Early Learners (preschool)

Jumping off rockThe Center for Early Learners (CFEL) incorporates the best practices in early childhood education as researched and outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The CFEL program is inspired by the innovative early education centers of Reggio Emilia, Italy. Teachers facilitate multi-faceted investigations based on the children's questions and interests. Throughout the evolution of an investigation (or project), motor and cognitive skills are practiced with the added benefit of problem-solving, teamwork, and acquiring a joy of learning.

Documentation of daily activities and long-term projects is also integral to the CFEL program. Photographs of children engaged in the learning process are displayed in the classroom along with descriptions of what they are creating, feeling, and thinking. Documentation promotes parent-teacher and parent-child communication and serves as a comprehensive assessment tool.

CFEL teachers hold bachelors and/or master's degrees in Child Development or Early Childhood Education. They maintain a safe and healthy environment while allowing children to take developmentally appropriate risks. CFEL teachers also set clear guidelines about social behavior and encourage students to mediate disputes and solve problems. Teachers engage all the children in conversations on a group and individual basis and ask questions that promote critical thinking.
